Weathering the Storm of Worry

I worry when I cannot see the plan. When things seem too blurry to comprehend, I start asking questions and thinking "God where are you", my prayers are filled with my unbelief. Imagine being blind folded and placed in a dark room or building, the only way out is to take baby steps and have my hands out in front of me ready to feel for what might be in my way. That is how I feel when there are no plans or details laid out for me.

From God's perspective, this is a great place for me to be. For in this place I can put my reliance completely in Him.

Why can I not see this as God? Because I lack trust in who He says He is; my provider. He is the way, if I want guidance and direction, I need only to go to Him and He will show me the way. He is light; in the dark places I need only to invite Him to be with me that He may light it up. The bible says "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path" (Psalm 119:105 KJB) which means if I can speak His word in moments of darkness light will come to that place.

In my experience worry does not come alone, it is usually accompanied by fear, unbelief or doubt. As they set in, I have to choose light and I have to choose to trust in spite of not seeing the whole plan. I am a person who pays attention to details and likes to have things planned out. While that is not a bad way to be, I must become okay with not always knowing what will happen next, for what is faith if everything is made known?

As I am growing, I am learning that the best way for me to weather the storm of worry (because it will come) is to anchor myself in the word of God. In doing so, I am placing my hope and faith on the word of God and He will not leave me hanging. I must read the word of God to know what I can use to fight the storms as they come.

As worry comes, I choose to praise. As unbelief comes, I choose to worship. As doubt comes, I choose to read the word of God. As fear comes, I choose to pray the word of God.

I will leave us with a prayer,

Father, I thank you for your word. I thank you that it is filled with everything I need and in it I find you. I pray that as I continue this journey with you, I would not be bogged down by worry. I thank you for your truth and for being the light in my dark places. I thank you that you will fulfill your word and it will not return void. Father I thank you for being my guide and for being my light. I ask now that you would help me in my unbelief and help me to discern when I should be okay with not knowing what is coming next. I thank you for your love and for your protection.

In your son Jesus' name, amen.
