“And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very fragrant oil, and she poured it on his head as He sat at the table.” — Matthew 26:6-7 NKJV
“Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, ‘What will you give me if I deliver Him to you?’ And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.” — Matthew 26:14-16 NKJV
One person in the text above, gave an offering of a costly price. Another offered one thing that cost everything. Reading Matthew 26 and getting to these verses made me pause and ponder what am I willing to offer Christ? Am I willing to give up costly things (my undivided attention, my frustrations, my tendencies, my default way of thinking, my time, my desires) or am I going to ask the question of what more would I gain or be able to do, if I were to give less of me to Him? Am I willing to offer my very life in exchange for a momentary temptation? A temporary fix.
I would like to offer these same questions to you. Ask yourself: Have I counted the cost and found Christ worthy, or am I unsure? Do I find myself seeking opportunities to lay aside eternity for temporary gain? I encourage you to read Matthew 26 in full and after doing so, spend some time here in these verses. Invite the Lord to examine your heart. Acknowledge what He brings up and ask Him to show you how to move forward.
Let’s journey deeper with Jesus Christ. Trust Jesus Christ more. Pray and study scripture often. Help me Lord, amen.
